- 3 - <br />Mayor Rustad called the hearing to consider amending Ordinance 67 on lot sizes <br />to order at 8:45 P.M. Clerk - Administrator Zylla read the legal notice published <br />in the New Brighton Bulletin on November 25th and December 3rd. Attorney Meyers <br />read the proposed ordinance. <br />Robert Glazer doesn't want to see housing standards compromised. He suggested <br />garages be required and new structures be reviewed so they don't look alike. <br />He does not oppose the lot size reduction. <br />John Robertus asked the purpose of the reduction. Mayor Rustad explained that <br />with sewer and water we would go back to 75' lots to conform to other villages. <br />Mrs. Haake asked if 100' lots were required south of TH10. Mayor Rustad said <br />previous to sewer some residence districts were 100' minimum. <br />Chris Piehowski said that he was against the smaller lots because you can't <br />build a house on a 75 foot lot. <br />Roger Baumgartner was against the change also. He felt we should not concern <br />ourselves with what is done in other communities. <br />Councilman Malvin said everything else is compared with other villages, like <br />parks, golf courses, etc. <br />Mayor Rustad called for objectors: Barbara Haake. -1740 County Road I, Chris <br />Piehowski -2259 Pinewood Drive, Harold Hjelle -5161 Red Oak Drive, John Robertus- <br />2055 County Road H, Jesse Varns -7350 Silver Lake Road, Richard Trautner - 5105 <br />Eastwood Road, Wayne Burmeister -7565 Knollwood Drive, Richard Brown -2126 Terrace, <br />and Gerhard Voll -5085 Red Oak Drive. <br />Jim Nerdahl, 7941 Edgewood Drive, stood and said he was for the change. <br />Robert Glazer suggested a building advisory board. Some discussion followed on <br />"235 Program" and FHA requirements. <br />Attorney Meyers was directed to amend the building code to require at least one <br />car garages and to increase the square footage requirement of houses. <br />Mayor Rustad closed the hearing at 9:08 P.M. <br />MSP (Rustad /Malvin) To adopt Ordinance #182 amending the zoning ordinance <br />reducing the lot sizes in R1 districts. Neisen Naye <br />Councilman Hodges stated small lots limit access to garages. Blanchard Aye <br />Councilman Blanchard said the favors weren't called for. Hodges Naye <br />Councilman Neisen stated he agreed with Don, that 80 or 85 feet is needed. Malvin Aye <br />Rustad Aye <br />Attorney Meyers stated that amendments to the zoning ordinance require a 4/5s <br />vote to pass. Motion stands defeated. <br />Keith Harstad, builder, stated the Mayor didn't call for those in favor, and he <br />built 22 homes in New Brighton last year from $36,000- $80,000 with the widest <br />lot 80 feet. <br />
