Councilman Pickar asked if there was a change to one zip code, whether Minneapolis <br />or St. Paul carriers would have to give up servicing their present areas and how <br />many persons would be involved. Clerk Zylla stated that there were less than 100 <br />single family homes difference between the St. Paul and Minneapolis delivery areas. <br />Mrs. Ole Bacon, 2265 Highway #10 stated that with 2260 Highway #10 about 1/2 mile <br />down the highway in the St. Paul zone, it was confusing for delivery men trying to <br />locate her residence in the Minneapolis zone. <br />Mr. Thomsen, 7425 Pleasant View Drive asked if there was ever a referendum to <br />decide a postal zone question. Mr. Rydell replied that the Post Office has done <br />this in the past. Mr. Thomsen doesn't want his zip code changed. <br />Mrs. Thomsen, 7425 Pleasant View Drive stated the place to start changes was in <br />Minneapolis and St. Paul. She added that only the house numbers causing problems <br />should be renumbered. <br />Mr. James Nerdahl, 7946 Edgewood stated that the main problem dealt with emergency <br />vehicles. He felt that just the East -West streets should be renumbered and it <br />should be put to a referendum.. <br />Mr. Clyde Merilatt, 7225 Knollwood declared that he does most of his business in <br />Minneapolis and he felt there would be a delay in receiving mail in Minneapolis if <br />there was a change to a 55112 zip code. <br />Mrs. Carol Baumgartner asked the audience if there was any reason they were objecting <br />besides the fact that a few letters may be temporarily delayed and phone calls may <br />have to be made. <br />r. Robert Glazer stated that there has been unprecedented growth in this area and <br />the possibility of change has been enhanced by this growth. There is no assurance <br />from the Metropolitan Council that another change would not have to take place. <br />He asked the Council to work within the postal system they have now. <br />Mr. George Gustafson, 8391 Spring Lake Road stated that there was no point in <br />changing all of the numbers for the time being. Correct the problems and change <br />the East -West streets. He said the St. Paul numbering system was a bad example of <br />a good system. <br />Councilman Johnson asked the residents if their chief concern was that the change <br />may not be the only change. He wondered whether anyone was really considering the <br />primary problem which was whether a person could be easily located within the present <br />system. He asked whether the possible loss of someone's life was worth not changing <br />to a uniform system. <br />Mayor Neisen called for a show of hands on the following questions: to adopt the <br />Metropolitan system, (8); to only change East -West streets, (12); not to do anything, <br />(6). <br />Patrolman Smith stated that North -South street numbers can be figured out, but they <br />are still confusing. <br />Mr. George Gustafson stated that if there was going to be a change to a uniform <br />system, the current St. Paul numbers be changed to conform to the Minneapolis numbers, <br />
