Wille, 7911 Spring Lake Road stated that it was a very dangerous corner and the <br />rvice station would impede the free flow of traffic. <br />Mr. Glazer produced a traffic flow map dated 1969 which showed there were 22,000 cars a <br />day on Highway #10. Mr. Smith stated his figures were 24,000 cars per 18 hour day. He <br />added that the traffic count on Silver Lake Road showed that there were 4100 cars South <br />of Highway #10 and 2500 cars North of the intersection for an 18 hour period. <br />Mr. Tom Dougherty, 2109 Laport Drive asked if the Council could override the Planning <br />Commission's request to deny. Mayor Neisen explained that the Council could do as they <br />felt best. <br />Mrs. Haake inquired as to why the Highway Department would allow more exits to Highway #10. <br />She was informed that the Highway Department cannot deny access to Highway #10. <br />Councilman Baumgartner asked Mr. Larson what his interest was in the property. Mr. Larson <br />stated that he was selling it to Mobil Oil. <br />Mayor Neisen asked if there were right turns and speed up lanes. Mr. Smith replied there <br />were neither. <br />Mr. Dougherty asked how far access to the station property was from the corner of Silver <br />Lake Road and Highway #10. Mr. Smith replied that the Highway #10 entrance was about <br />140 feet off the intersection. The first Silver Lake Road exit was 100 feet and the second <br />exit was another 90 feet off the intersection of Highway #10 and Silver Lake Road. <br />bert Glazer asked if the Highway Department performs a planning function. Attorney <br />_iyers explained that Highway #10 was not a limited access highway and the Highway Department <br />can only tell persons where accesses can go. <br />Mr. Jim Nerdahl, 7941 Edgewood Drive asked what is the project worth in dollars. Mr. Smith <br />stated that there would be $100,000 in plant and equipment. He added that the station 1/2 <br />mile West on Highway #10 was served by a supply agreement only. <br />He estimated that taxes from the station would approximate $1,000 to $1,500 per year. <br />Mr. Leo Bringewatt, 7811 Silver Lake Road stated he has an interest in the land and if <br />the station is approved he will build a better building next to the station to enhance the <br />station property. <br />Mayor Neisen called for further questions or objections from the floor. There were none. <br />Mayor Neisen closed the hearing to the public at 9:40 P.M. He advised the Council that <br />the only factors to be considered must be health, safety, and welfare of the residents of <br />the Village. There were no comments or questions from the Council. <br />MSP (Baumgartner - Johnson) To deny the issuance of a special use permit to Mobil Oil to <br />construct a service station on the Southeast corner of Highway #10 and Silver Lake Road <br />because of the increased traffic hazard that the station would present to people and cars, <br />especially those traveling in a North -South direction on Silver Lake Road. 5 Ayes <br />Mayor Neisen adjourned the special hearing at 9:43 P.M. <br />. Smith withdrew his plans and material upon denial. <br />
