by the fire chief be installed in all apartment buildings. All new construction <br />has complied with this ordinance. When the ordinance was passed, apartment <br />owners of existing buildings were given two years to comply with the new law. <br />Letters requesting compliance were mailed by the fire chief two years ago. <br />Presently, letters have been sent out again by the fire chief notifying the <br />owners that the installation must be made at this time. Several owners have <br />balked, primarily due to increased costs and three owners met informally with <br />the Village Council last Monday evening. The Clerk requested information from <br />the Council as to whether the ordinance should be enforced or whether they felt <br />that it should be repealed. The Mayor and Council expressed an opinion that <br />the ordinance was a good law even though it may be tested in court and they <br />gave no indication of wanting it repealed. It was the consensus of the Council <br />to proceed with its enforcement. <br />Councilman Hodges' Report <br />Councilman Hodges again noted that there have been problems with rusty water in <br />his area. The Clerk notified him that a meeting was held with the engineer, <br />village superintendent and a health department employee in which the matter <br />was discussed at length. The health department agrees that it is not a health <br />hazard and that it seems the problem is in the distribution system and not in <br />the pumping system. The health department is to conduct a thorough analysis <br />of the system beginning the last week in July. <br />Councilman Johnson's Report <br />MSP (Johnson- Baumgartner) To direct the Clerk to investigate various housing <br />ordinances in an attempt to control the state of disrepair of apartment and <br />single family homes for the purpose of attempting to improve the quality of <br />housing and the neighborhood environment by adopting a housing code for the <br />Village for Mounds View. <br />Councilman Johnson noted that he had attended a North Suburban Sewer Advisory <br />Board meeting on Thursday in which several alternatives to the Lino Lakes - <br />Centerville interceptor were discussed. <br />Councilman Baumgartner's Report <br />5 Ayes <br />Councilman Baumgartner announced that there will be a Recreation Committee <br />meeting on Thursday, July 26, 1973 at 8:30 P.M., discussion to center on hiring <br />a full time park director and a Planning Commission meeting on Wednesday, <br />July 25, 1973 at 7:30 P.M. <br />Councilman Pickar's Report <br />Councilman Pickar in reporting on Lakeside Park noted that the Commission was <br />seeking comments on ways to improve the park. <br />Councilman Pickar stated that he attended a meeting attended by Ramsey County <br />officials and the Metropolitan Council on how to use surface waters in Ramsey <br />County. <br />
