PROCEEDINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA <br />A Regular Meeting of the Mounds View City Council was called to order by <br />Mayor Neisen at 8:03 P.M., on September 23, 1974, at the Mounds View City <br />Hall, 2401 Highway #10, Mounds View, Minnesota 55112. <br />Present: Also Present: <br />Mayor Neisen <br />Councilman Hodges <br />Councilman Baumgartner <br />Councilman Johnson <br />Councilman Pickar <br />Clerk - Administrator Achen <br />Attorney Meyers <br />Engineer Bearden <br />MSP(Hodges- Johnson) To approve the minutes of September 9, 1974. <br />Residents Requests and Comments from the Floor <br />Betty Moller, 7925 Spring Lake Road, Mounds View representative to the Rice <br />Creek Watershed District Study Committee, gave a progress report on the <br />Rice Creek Watershed District. There will be a decision made October 2, 1974, <br />on the overall plan. She and the Committee request more input from local <br />planning commissions and encourage citizens to attend and observe meetings of <br />the study and advisory committees. <br />MSP ( Neisen- Hodges) To acknowledge and accept her report, <br />5 Ayes <br />5 Ayes <br />Carol Baumgartner reported on the League of Women Voter's study of the proper <br />spelling of the name Mounds View. She presented examples from newspapers, legal <br />petitions, business advertisements, and various documents showing conflicting <br />spelling; sometimes spelled as one word and sometimes two words. She cited <br />the petition to incorporate the Village of Mounds View which used the two -word <br />spelling, and she recommended that the Council make a definite decision one <br />way or the other. Her preference is the two -word spelling. <br />Mayor Neisen stated that the attorney's opinion is that, based upon the papers <br />for incorporation, the proper spelling is two words. Mayor Neisen noted that <br />the word City should now be used in place of Village. <br />MSP (Hodges- Johnson) To officially adopt the spelling, City of Mounds View, <br />and to direct the city administrator to change all signs, labels, and seals <br />on equipment and buildings to so read. <br />Mayor Neisen read a letter from Mark Achen accepting the position of Clerk - <br />Administrator. <br />Mayor Neisen read a letter from Mayor Gayle Bromander of New Brighton requesting <br />the Mounds View City Council to join his Council in urging Ramsey County to <br />acquire the Brightwood Hills Golf Course. The Mayor stated that the course is <br />a valuable recreational resource and many Mounds View residents already use it. <br />5 Ayes <br />
