MOUNDS VIEW CITY COUNCIL
Page 2
Fire Chief Fagerstrom spoke in favor of
a relocation decision, since upgrading
present Hwy. 10 would present problems
to the Fire Dept.
Henry Crystal, Embers Restaurant; Doug
Sinclair, Mounds View Square Association;
and Loren Laskowof Northtown Businessmen,
spoke for business and felt the decision
was not made on curreat information, and
did not consider economic impact. They
have hired a consultant, Mr. Dahlgren, to
do a study. Suggested the Council request
a delay until the consultant has the report.
City Administrator Nelson read the letter
from MnDOT announcing their decision. City
Attorney Meyers read from statute 161.172 as
to the amount of authority resting in the
Council of cities involved, as well as
adjacent cities.
Dennis Pietrini, 8434 Sunnyside Rd., thought
the Council would have more input before the
decision was reached. He sees nothing to
be gained by the northerly route and he
suggested there may be a more viable alter-
native which could be arrived at. Council-
member Ziebarth questioned what impact new
ideas would have at this late date.
Mayor McCarty and Couacilmember Forslund
felt we aeed more answers as to elevation,
drainage, etc.
Councilmember Hodges felt the highway may be a
detriment to business at first, as in St. Cloud,
but not in the long run.
Regular Meeting
December 10, 1979
MnDOT Decision on
Hwy. 10 Relocation
Councilmember Rowley felt that, since the decision
has been made, we should take a strong position and
act now to make sure the E.I.S. addresses pertinent
problems such as drainage, grading, buffers etc.
rather than react later.
Bob Shelquist, 8025 Fairchild, stated that
some citizens look forward to having Hwy. 10
out of the main street of Mounds View. MnDOT s
decision is consistent with what we have re-
quested in the past. Mr. Dahlgren has already
twice recommended that Hwy. 10 be moved.
Staff was directed to check on where we are
in the process, MnDot will need to address the
Red Oak interchange, how drainage is affected,
elevation, how they propose to deal with noise
problems, etc.
