Input as to the applicant's wiltingness to reduce tie pylon sign to fifi within. fihe
City's curreni allowances (35 feet in height and 344 square feet in area)
We need to know froen the Planning Commission if you are receptive to ameding the
Sign Code as we have suggested in this report, a.nd/or to approving a variance far the
monurrent sigtag af the driveway entrances and ai the corner of Long Lake lZoad and
Highway 10.
Finally, one other option the Planning Conmission could consider is graniing a varsance
for the 75 foot sign, based on th City Engineer's study, but placing conditions on the
variance that ii cannot be used untit both of the followitg occur:
The bridge is appeoved by the Minnesota Department af Transportation for
construction, and the bridge is under construction.
2. The applicant affords the City a period of at least six months in which to consider
and adopt an amendment to he Sign Code to address signage for larger sized
shopping centers. If the amendment would allow a cnter idenification sign of at
' least 400 square feet in area and 45 feet in height, the variance allawing for a 75
foot sign having an area of 800 square feet would become null and void.
Without this additional inforrnation, staff is not prepared to make a recommendation.
cc: John Streeter, Paster Entezprises, 2227 University Avenue, St. Paul M1V 55114m1b77
FAX: 646-13 89
