RESOLUTION 7986 <br /> CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br /> COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> AUTHORIZING AUTOMACTIC SYSTEMS COMPANY TO REPLACE VARIABLE <br /> FREQUENCY DRIVES IN THE WATER BOOSTER STATION. <br /> WHEREAS, the City has the responsibility to efficiently operate the water distribution <br /> system, and; <br /> WHEREAS, a 2 million gallon ground reservoir with a booster station is a key <br /> component of this system, with upgrades last occurring in 1998 with the installation of new <br /> VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives); and; <br /> WHEREAS, On Thursday, August 16, 2012 the pumps in the booster station failed <br /> causing a significant drop in pressure in the water system, which was later determined to be <br /> a faulty VFD and is no longer operational, and; <br /> WHEREAS, the Public Works staff has received a quote for replace both VFDs in the <br /> booster station for the pumps in the amount of $28,473.00 plus sales tax from Automatic <br /> Systems Company from St. Paul MN. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Mounds <br /> View, Ramsey County, Minnesota as follows: <br /> 1. The quote proposal from Automatic Systems Company to furnish and install two (2) <br /> Variable Frequency Drives for the water booster station is hereby approved. <br /> Compensation will be on a lump sum basis for$28,473 plus sales tax. <br /> 2. Staff is directed to apply for Xcel Energy's rebate program for the new variable frequency <br /> drives, estimated to be $5,000 per drive for a total rebate of$10,000. <br /> 3. The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed, for and on behalf of the <br /> City, to enter into agreement with Automatic Systems Control for said services at said <br /> price. <br /> 4. A 5% contingency of$1,500 is approved in the event that additional related or unforeseen <br /> work is required to complete the work. The use of contingency monies will require pre- <br /> approval by the Director of Public Works. <br /> 5.
