It has eharacteristics of both the more mature suburban
areas and the "boom" growth areas. The community contains
more
than the average
number of seniors as well as a very high
re-schoolers.
With its lar e base of affardable
percentaqe of p
9
housing, it will continue to attract young familiest howevers
with its lack of "up-scale" housing it will also lose many of
thes households as they seek more
amenitieso It would appear
that both the locat on and history af the community
have
contributed ta make it one of the more unique areas in the Twin
Cities Metropolitan Areae
The city has a blend of both Blue Collar and
White Collar
households. The former group is the largest
occupation set in
the city; the latter group
when all the occupations
included
therein are added together,
constitutes a majority.
Most married
ouples work. As a result, the average income, while lower than
the norm, is much higher than the demographic mix suggests.
Mounds View draws its residents from a variety of
sources.
Its latest influx is composed of many short-
termers who came tn
the city in search of a location close to their jobs. But, there
are also large numbers of young
families moving from other
suburbs who choose the ommunity because of its housing and
school qua].ity. The retention of many of these people within the
community
seems to be a greater problem
than attracting
new-
comers.
Mounds View, in comparison with rnany other
communities,
15
