r., _, - - ..
I
1
1
E
receives an evaluation among the highest that suburban residents
have conferred upon their community's offerings. Participation
in City-sponsored activities and programs is also on the high
side of the suburban norm. Mounds View is an amazingly active
community!
One issue that arises is the adequacy of current offerings.
There would appear to be demand well in access of the programming
currently offerede A fairly high twelve percent of the sample
reported going elsewhere for recreational activities. Added
research by the Parks and Recreation Department might spot the
gaps" which are leading to this defection to other cities.
Residents approach further developments carefully. They are
split on a bond referendum to complete the park system and the
construction and operation of a municipal golf coursea However,
residents would be willing to support a tax increase to purchase
and preserve the wetlands contained within the cit.y.
Mild 'anterest was also evidenced in several ancillary
services which the new Ramsey County Library could offer. The
loaning of videa cassettes, in particular, was very popular. But
services such as "Story Hours," Reader Advisory Service, quiet
study alcoves, Craft Programs, puppet shows, and "Hook Talks"
drew an audience of about twenty percent of the sample. There
is, then, a pronounced feeling that the library should do more
than just loan books.
85
