CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br /> OFFICE OF THE MAYOR <br /> - PROCLAMATION- <br /> SOPHIE SKIBA DAY <br /> May 4, 2013 <br /> WHEREAS, Sophie Czyscon Skiba was born on May 4, 1913, in the city of Minneapolis. At the age of <br /> two, Sophie's family moved to Wisconsin where they took up farming. Sophie and her nine siblings helped with <br /> the farming chores. <br /> WHEREAS, at the age of 16, Sophie left home to find work in Minneapolis. It was there in Minneapolis <br /> at a dance that Sophie met her future husband, Walter Skiba. <br /> WHEREAS, Sophie and Walter Skiba married in 1934, taking up residence on land Walter Skiba's family <br /> had been farming for many years in what was then Mounds View Township, alongside Highway 8(prior to the <br /> construction of Interstate 35W)where the Mermaid, Central Sandblasting, McDonalds and other businesses <br /> now operate. <br /> WHEREAS, in 1970, Walter and Sophie Skiba built a home on Long Lake Road where Sophie continues <br /> to live to this day. <br /> WHEREAS,Sophie has many interests and hobbies, including gardening andflowers, but her passion is, <br /> and always has been, her family. "I am rich in Family", Sophie would often remark <br /> WHEREAS,Sophie Skiba is a proud Mounds View resident through and through, and has been since the <br /> day she married Walter Skiba some 78 years ago. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, it is with great pleasure and honor that I, Joe Flaherty, <br /> Mayor of the City of Mounds View, do hereby proclaim May 4, 2013, the centennial anniversary of Sophie <br /> Skiba's birth, to be: <br /> SOPHIE SKIBA DAY <br /> In the City of Mounds View. <br /> Given under my hand and Seal of the City of Mounds View, this 22rd day of April 2013. <br /> (Seal) �. <br /> oe Flaherty, Mayor <br />
