<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 6045 <br /> <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIE\V <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PURCHASE OF SIX POLICE RIFLES, AND <br />REQUIRED MOUNTING EQUIPMENT, AMMUNITION, AND CASES <br /> <br />\VHEREAS, the Police Department currently has shotguns mounted in squad cars <br />available to officers. Some of the shotguns are nearly 30 years old, and the Police Depmiment <br />has no rifles available to its officers, and; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the use of police shotguns in a setting such as the City of Mounds View has <br />been shown to present serious liability mId safety issues. Additionally, the shotgun is not an <br />effective weapon against a suspect possessing a rifle, and; <br /> <br />\VHEREAS, most police agencies have police rifles available to officers, and; <br /> <br />'VHEREAS, The United States Army has a program that allows state and local law <br />enforcement agencies to purchase refurbished like new condition M l6A 1 rifles at a cost of <br />$421.21 including tax and shipping. Other bids for a similar rifle are $649, and $692 not <br />including tax or shipping. <br /> <br />\VHEREAS, adequate funding is budgeted in the police forfeiture fund for the purchase <br />of the police rifles. The Police Department has a credit balance at Streichers Police Equipment <br />of $1500. The credit balance will be used to purchase the ammunition and necessary mounting <br />brackets for the rifles. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mounds View City Council does <br />hereby authorize staff to purchase six M16 At rifles through the U.S. Anny 1122 Program, <br />utilizing forfeiture funds in the amount of$2527, and the necessary mounting equipment, cases <br />and ammunition utilizing the $1500 credit balance from Streichcrs police equipment. <br /> <br />Adopted this 14h day of July 2003. <br /> <br /> <br />ATTEST <br /> <br />cJQ;)~J t1&~ <br />J ames Ericson, Acting City Clerk / <br />Admi nistrator <br /> <br />.
