Each er.perience and each learning
opportunity leaves a lasting imprint on his [otal beins. They not only
make changes in his or her mental or physical being, 6ut also in their
social and emotional attitudes. For a fruitful and purposeful living,
man must be an active participant in more phases of educational and recrea-
tional endeavors and experiencea than those found merely in the classroom
during his school years." *
It was with those words in mind tlat the combined planning efforts of City
Officials, School Administra[ors, Phy-Ed Teachers and Comnunity Educators
began [he project ot developing a nas[ex plan for tlie outdoor facilities
at Edsewood Jr. High.
The firs[ phase of planning hegan by assessing the existing facilities in
relation to the present and future demands on the ai[e. There presently are
two major users of the Edgewood School eite, that being the day school program
and municipal a[hletic prog*ams.
A rough drawing of the existing iacilities can be found in Addendum A. As
can be noted the site presently has one baseSall field, 3 softball fields,
4 tennis cour[s and one football field. I[ stould be no[ed that Edgevood
Jr. High has Uie only tennis cour[s and official foo[ball field located
within the bomdaries of [he City of Pfounds VLew.
17ie present condition of tUe baseball nnd softball fields ia at best
deploruble. The tennis courts are presently in need of tesurfacing and tlie
net posts should be replaced dueto poor construction. The football field
although freshly sodded in 1976, is also in poor condi[ion, because of
misuse and ponC maintenance procedurc, ` „
, i.r; :
Aftcr reviewLng the existing faciltties it i+as detcrmined that because of the
high demand [hat the fielda are presently experiencing, ae muld not cut back
in tfie number of facilities.
