'iJhen the pond vias reclaiaedi the peat <br />was taken from tce nond�and piled uo on the shore and prior to the time <br />it could be hauled"aereg� a quantity of it we�hed back Snto the pond vrhere <br />it renains to date, The peat has not created too large a problem for us <br />as Par as the viater qualitv is concerned, but it has covered a major <br />� portion oP the s€nd hottovl of the lake, znd svaen stired up� does mxke the <br />r+ater less clean. ti:e recently had e consultant look at our pond as rve <br />hr.d some concern about needin� to do sone mainten.sce or. the west shore <br />line, E:e told us aE that tine thnt our nzjor concez•n should be tho <br />rer.ioval o£ the silt, Aiter exam`_n!n� a nunber o_° possible solutions to <br />re^t�ving this silt� ire have decided the best solution viould be to use a <br />suction dred�e and vaccuum the bottora o£ the pond, ihe exact amount of <br />silt to be removed can onls be guessed at� as there are a nunber oS faotora <br />including the ease �vita vi^ich it is sucked out. The Roto-ROOter conpany <br />hae e�cperience with this type of pa�ping and has indScated to us tiiat they <br />coulo eesily do this project with a ninimum o£ problems to the area <br />and the homes around tha pond. <br />The Pr000sal: As the dur.�pinr o° the water. and silt is the maJor problem <br />in a suction dred-ying oneration� we are requestin3 oernisaion <br />to use the vacaat lots at the northeast co^ner of Ridge Lane and Long Lake <br />Road. :la tiiould nake a dike o" straei b¢ils start�ing about 25 Peet west of � <br />the east edge o_* tnese lots ar.d have the diked Sn area� a large oval�' <br />covering the area Prom the startir.g point over to�eards D,ong Lake Rosd. <br />The silt anfl vuater }vould be pu^�ped into this oval vrhere the solids would <br />aettle out and the �veter woud run throu;;h the'straw� and into the storm <br />sar+er outlet in the corner of the vecant lots, The stPavr �vould be antin6 <br />as a filter. leeving all oS' t5e solids within the oval. <br />After the water has been removed Srom the silt� eie will either remove the <br />�ilt from the land. or leave it the^e �or the City io use as fill Sor this�� <br />�-� area which rie understand is to be Silled Por n park, 7fe understand froa� . <br />tho Roto-Hooter representa:ive that the silt cen be somewhat piled up when���. <br />it is pumned in thia process. ihe pur.roing process night tAke up to three <br />dflys, but probably no lonRer. �. <br />
