 IU: Yf11`K CflU RCLfCGiiii numa>toucv
fROM: Staff
DATE: January 24, 19)9
RE: Winter Skating Policy Manual
Enclosed is the existing poticy for our winter warming house program. There
has been so question concerning why the rinks have been closed on certain
evenings.
The general policy for the closing of rinks is as follows:
t. When the temperature reaches 15° below zero or 20° below zero windchill.
2. When there is 3 or more inches of snow on the rirtk and it is still
snowing.
3. When there are 5 or less kids.
The difficulty of enforcing these policies is that each rink has individual
needs such as hockey practices, skating lessons, games> etc. In addition to
the scheduling conflicts there have been conflicts of interpretation as to
when each of the policies should go into effect.
We presently have weekly meetings with the warming house attendants to review
the past week and to discuss the rink closing policies.
Staff would recomrend that the Commission recommnd approval of the warming
house policies as prepared by staff.
