-4- <br />Puppet Wagon Staff presented a general overview of the Mounds Yiew "Merry <br />Program Minstrel Puppet Wagon" program that began its weekiy scheduted <br />shows on Thursday, June 26, 1979. Totat cost expended to <br />date for the wagon is $1,235, which was budgeted out of the <br />City's Contingency account as authorized by Council. The <br />wagon currently performs 23 shows each week and has played <br />to over 1,000 residents in the first week of operation. <br />Staff presented a copy af the 1979 puppet wagon schedule and <br />encouraged each of the commissioners to attend a show if <br />possible. <br />Sumner Park Park Director Anderson gave a brief update of the surtmer <br />Program Update recreation programs, highlighting the T.M.R. (trainable <br />mentally retarded) program and the swimming pragram at <br />Edgewood Jr. High School. Staff stated programs were going <br />fine with two minor problems: <br />(7) Baseball coaches have requested that Satellites be <br />installed at each of the City ball parks. Staff informed <br />the Comnission that this had been cut from the budget <br />and would cost approximately $3,000 for the facilities. <br />(2) The (age old) problem of a few highly competitive coaches <br />is once again plaguing the summer baseball program. <br />Staff will be developing specific guidelines for the <br />Co�nission to review to alleviate future problems with <br />volunteer coaches and coordinators. <br />1980 LAWCON Staff briefly reviewed the process currently being undertaken <br />Grant for the submission of the 1980 LAWCON Grant for Pnase 2 <br />Application development of Silver Viea Park. The Phase 2 development grant <br />is for the following construcYion: <br />6- lit tennis courts ....... 8 80,000 <br />1 - concession building ..... 10,000 <br />6- sets of bleachers. $500 ea... 3.000 <br />6- players benches, g250 ea... 1,500 <br />general landscaping ......... 10,000 <br />TOTAL ... $104,500 <br />The preliminary grant is due to the State Planning Agency on <br />June 29, 1979, aird staff should be notified by October 1, 1979, <br />as to our funding priority. <br />Staff Report Staff reviewed the June monthly update highlighting the <br />following areas: <br />(i) Ed evrood Park School. Staff presented a copy of the over- <br />a concept p an for Edgewood Jr. High School and brought <br />the Camnission up-to-date as to their progress. A meeting <br />was held with the area residents on June 25, 1979, to <br />discuss the sWtus of the project and the residents in <br />general were very pieased with the City's progress. <br />
