Anderson> Director <br />DATE: August 22, 1979 <br />RE: Fbnthly Update <br />The purpose of this report is to keep the Parks and Recreation Commission <br />informed on current issues within the Parks, Recreation and Forestry <br />Department that do not need official Comnission action. <br />1. C.E.T.A. Program draws to a close - The sumrer C.E.T.A. program <br />will draw to a close on Friday, August 24, 1979. This year's <br />group of workers has been outstanding, a partiai list of the <br />projects they have completed include: <br />1. City Hall Planter (M V and walkw�y) <br />2. Painting Park Shelter Buildings <br />3. Water line at community gardens <br />4. Extensive trimming and weeding <br />5. Tot tots at Lartbert and Oakwood <br />6. Dai7y field lining and dragging <br />7. T.M.R.. Program <br />8. Swimming pooi attendant <br />9. Vapaming and tree trimming <br />As they represent over $16,000 in "free" labor Eo the City I am <br />very concerned of the city's increased dependence on such progra�. <br />2. Com�wnity Ed - Staff ineets montbly with the School District Community <br />Ed Advisory Council and we are in the process of reviewing the present <br />school usage policy. I have enctosed a copy of the origina7 document <br />and will discuss the poH cy ramifications with the Commisston briefly <br />on Thursday. <br />3. Cancer Swi�A-Thon - Our department sponsored a"Cancer Swim-A-Thon <br />on Friday, August 3 and we reised over 5750.00 for cancer research. <br />Our top swimrer was K�rt McCulloch who personally raised 5284.00. <br />4. Fa17 League - The Fall adult softball league is in full swing with <br />12 tea� perticipating for five consecutive weeks. <br />5. LIFE-BE IN Ii - Ik are conte�rylating adopttng tMs as our general theme <br />and logo for all recreation programs. Staff shirts have been printed <br />up and we will have them on displqy Thursday. <br />
