-4- <br />Puppet Wagon Staff presented a general overview of the htounds View "Merry <br />Pr__,ram Minstrel Puppet Wagon" program that began its weekly scheduled <br />sfia�s on Thursday, June 26, 7979, Total cost expended to <br />date for the wagon is $1,235, o-�hich was budgeted out of the <br />City's Contingency account as author9zed by Council. The� <br />wagon currently performs 23 shows each week and has played <br />to over 1,000 residents in the first week of operation. <br />Staff presented a copy of the 7979 �puppet wagon schedule and <br />� encouraged each of the commissioners to attend a show if <br />possible. <br />Summer Park Park �irector Anderson gave a brief update of the suimner <br />Progrem Update recreation programs, highlighting the T.t4.R. (trainable � <br />mentaliy retarded) program and the swimming program at <br />� Edgewood Jr. High School. Staff stated programs were going <br />fine with two minor problems: <br />(1) Baseball caaches have requested that Satellites be <br />installed at each of the City ball parks. Staff informed <br />the Commission that this had been cut from the budget <br />and would cost approximately $3,000 for the faci}ities: . <br />� (2) The (age old) problem of a few highly comoetitive coaches <br />is once again plaguing the summer baseball program. <br />Staff wi77 be developing specific guidelines for the <br />Cammission to review to alleviate future problems with <br />volunteer coaches and caordinators. <br />/" <br />19��-! LA'-�:nt1 Staff briefly reviewed the process currently bzing undertaken � <br />G:ant for the submission of the 1980 LAWCON Grant for Phase 2 -��� <br />Application � development of Silver View Park. The Phase 2 development grant � <br />is for the following construction: <br />� 6- li* tennis courts ,,,,,,, $ 80,000 . <br />1 - concession building ..... 10,000 <br />6- se*_s of 6leachers, $500 ea,.. 3,000 <br />6- players benches, y250 ea... 7,500 � <br />gener,l landscaping ......... 10,000 <br />FOTAL ... 5,�04,500 � � <br />The prel*��:inary grant is due to the State Planning Agency on <br />June 29, I)79, and staff should be notified by October 1, 1979, <br />as to our fundin9 priority. <br />Staff Repor�t Staff revSewed the June monthly update highlighting tne <br />following areas: <br />(1) f�l.evrood Park School. Staff presented a copy of the over- <br />a"ti concept plan for Edgewood Jr. Higb School and brought <br />the Commission up-to-date as to their progress. A meeting <br />was held wSth the area residents on June 25, 7979, to <br />discuss the statu�: of the project and the residents in <br />gener�l were very pleased with the City's progress. <br />�" <br />V' ' <br />
