` . . <br />'A��PARK MAINTENANCB ISSUES <br />-2- <br />Staff reviewed the existing status of the <br />park maintenance department and indicated <br />that the existing structure of having park <br />ugh administra-' <br />n other areas. <br />__ _ <br />had evolved with the split in the public <br />works department. Staff responded that there <br />was some dissension between the men that has <br />occurred during the split, but that he felt <br />tfine would solve the problems at hand. Staff <br />reviewed the park maintenance standards and <br />indicated that eventually dollar amounts <br />would be placed to the various levels of ser- <br />vice that could the serve as a better tool <br />for budgeting in the future. Mayor Linke <br />indicated that it would also serve as an <br />excellent planning tool when developing and <br />expanding proposed park lands. <br />PARKS AND OPEN SPACE Staff distributed copies of the comprehensive <br />parks and open space plan and indicated that <br />it had been formally adopted by the City <br />Council in 1982 and was currently being used <br />as the major planning tool for future park <br />development decisions. <br />PARK FOUNDATIONS Staff distributed a copy of a memorandum dat- <br />ed March 17, 1983 outlining new directions <br />for the Parks and Recreation Commission and <br />City Council. The City Council reviewed it <br />and indicated that they concurred with the <br />establishment of neighborhood park planning <br />councils and felt that it was a positive dir- <br />ection. Councilmember Quick requested that <br />- some type of article be placed in the next <br />City Newsletter outlining the neighborhood <br />park planning council cancept and stated that <br />the Groveland Park Foundation has worked <br />quite effectively. <br />Staff also reviewed the neighborhood park <br />planning guidelines and indicated that at <br />this time, Groveland Park was the only neigh- <br />borhood group that had submitted an applica- <br />tion for funding. <br />,� <br />
