•
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
ACTIVITY REPORT
November 20, 2002
1. COLONIAL CRAFT—DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES
The renovation of Building I in preparation for Colonial Craft continues to move forward. During October and
November KVA Engineering installed the central dust collector system on the south side of the building. The
system looks good. Northco continues to oversee leasehold improvements inside the building. Its goal is to be
completed by the end of November. On November 12th I met with the Company's Controller and HR Manager,
and toured the production facility in Roseville. They are busy packing office items. Staff is looking forward to
the move to Mounds View! They have pictures of the new facility(exterior& interior)posted in the employee
lunchroom. I gave them 200 Chamber maps for their employees which they are happily distributing.
2. HWY 10 BUSINESS CENTER (ABBEY CARPET) PROJECT
The appraisal of the former Perkins property was completed mid-October. As expected, soil testing did not
show any problems with the site. Bank closing was delayed two weeks due to Cub Foods settlement with
Illbbey Carpet taking longer. Rob Carlson, the developer submitted three demolition bids to me on October 30th
ohn Kopas and Cub Foods signed their settlement (to pay Abbey Carpet) on November 4th. This enabled
financial closing on the land to occur on November 6th. A second bank closing(pertaining to the building
mortgage) occurred on November 18th. The City approved the demolition permit last week and Triple N
Construction began demolition of the Perkins building yesterday. It should take about one week to clear the site
in preparation for construction.
3. SYSCO MINNESOTA PROJECT UPDATE
SYSCO Minnesota, the City's largest employer, is moving ahead with its two building additions this fall.
Following the City Council's approval on October 14th of the Development Review, and then Rice Creek
Watershed's approbation, the Company moved forward with building construction this month. SYSCO is
adding an 18,300 sq. ft. freezer addition and an 18,000 sq. ft. dry storage area. The footings have been
completed and the steel beams are going up for the freezer. The dry storage area, on the northwest corner, is
farther along with concrete panels in place and roof work beginning.
4. JAKE'S SPORTS CAFÉ—PARKING LOT ADDITION
Since the City Council's approval of the Development Agreement for Jake's Sports Café on September 23rd, the
parking lot project has been significantly completed. According to Greg Lee, the City's Public Works Director,
the contractors for Jake's and for County Rd. H2 coordinated closely their site preparation, grading, curbing, and
Waving activities. Striping of the parking lot has been completed and lights installed. Installation of a perimeter
ence and the planting of vegetation/trees remain to be done.
\\Ntserver\CityHall\DATA\GROUPS\ECONDEV\EDC\EDC Activity Report\1 1-20-02.doc
