EDC Minutes Not Approved
O roved
July 16, 2004
Page 3
6. EDC BUSINESS
A. Discuss Possible Changes to I35W and Co. Highway 10 Proposed by the MN Dept. of
Transportation: Last month there was a joint working session of Arden Hills, Mounds View, and
New Brighton regarding transportation needs. Backman presented the EDC members with three
different maps showing how the main arterials along the eastern side of the City might change in
the future (I-35W, County Hwy 10, Co. Rd. I, and Old 8). The Vision map of MnDOT showed
which interchanges could be impacted and two Exhibit maps displayed changes that could be
made. A new interchange for Hwy 96 is proposed in New Brighton as part of the Northwest
Quadrant Redevelopment Project. County Road I Interchange might be eliminated, allowing for
just an underpass connecting Shoreview and Mounds View. Direct access in Mounds View from
County Hwy. 10 to I-35W might be closed off. Traffic would then flow south on Old 8 to the new
Hwy 96 Interchange. Belting expressed his view that a lot of M.V. businesses would be impacted
by these changes. As part of the comment process he would suggest that the City or Chamber
facilitate a local meeting of businesses to get their views on these changes. Backman concurred
and also mentioned that Sherry Gunn and Rob Marty are the City representatives on the joint
community meetings.
B. Other—None.
7. ADJOURNMENT
Backman indicated that he had arranged for a tour of SYSCO Minnesota's new dry storage and cold
storage areas. Given that the tour is to begin at 8:30 a.m., and there being no further business before
the Commission, Belting adjourned the July 16th meeting of the Economic Development Commission at
8:17 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
ax410,44._
Aaron A.
