•
Item Numbers: 6A
Meeting Date: April 18, 2008
Type of Business: EDC
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Economic Development Commission
From: Heidi Steinmetz, Economic Development Specialist
Item Title/Subject: Review First Draft of Public Communications/Marketing Plan
Background:
At the January 18th EDC meeting, staff inquired of the EDC's thoughts regarding the need for a
public communications/marketing assessment for the City of Mounds View. Staff completed the
attached assessment to save costs and time.
Staff presented the EDC with the assessment on February 15th but due to time constraints, the
EDC was only able to discuss one portion of the assessment in detail; the Mounds View road
• sign design options.
On March 21st, the EDC discussed issues related to the assessment in depth and agreed that
branding is something the City of Mounds View should consider, that the City newsletter should
be redesigned and that the City should have a "go to" person for all public
communications/marketing efforts within the City.
Discussion/Recommendation:
Staff completed the attached draft public communications/marketing plan as a starting point for
the EDC to build upon and later use as a basis to developing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for
a professional to complete a low-cost branding exercise. Staff recommends that the EDC refine
the draft plan by suggesting changes or additions and discussing ideas for an implementation
timeline.
Respectfully submitted,
Heidi Steinmetz
Economic Development Specialist
Attachments:
• • Public Communications/Marketing Assessment
• Draft Public Communications/Marketing Plan
