Project Questions
1. Organization/Agency Description
The City of Mounds View is a second ring suburb of the Twin Cities with a population of
13,000 and surface area of 4 square miles. The City has a tradition of supporting services
that protect and enhance environmental quality. The City's urban forest has been a
valuable asset that is recognized by a history of community, political and organizational
support.
Z. Project Site Description
Oak wilt disease is managed over the entire City. There are thousands of native oaks in
the City and 10 to 20 active oak wilt infection centers in any given year. Loss rates have
dropped dramatically since giant-funded oak wilt control activities have been instituted.
Soil type is sandy loam. Oaks are found throughout the Ciry of Mounds View. Oak wilt issues are kept front and center with the use of Local
media, both cable and newspapers, and through various City means such as websites
newsletters, billboards and flyers.
City staff and various contractors are key players in this effort as well. The entire process
is overseen by the City Forester. Support is also provided by other City staff, a park
board, the City Council and various homeowner associations.
5.
