RESOLUTION NO. 6671 <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />APPROVING THE RETROFIT OF THE EXISTING ELECTRONIC MESSAGE BOARD <br />TO AN LED LIGHTING SYSTEM <br />WHEREAS, the existing electronic message board is not functioning; and <br />WHEREAS, at the Council Meeting on September 12, 2005, Council did not <br />approve the bid alternate for the City Hall Rehabilitation Project for the "tower style" front <br />entry and stated they'd rather apply the money towards retrofitting the message board <br />with an LED lighting system; and <br />WHEREAS, power consumption for an LED lighting system is approximately <br />75% less than incandescent lighting and it is estimated that the current message board <br />electricity costs are $6,500.00/year or $549.00/month. <br />WHEREAS, it will cost approximately $630.00/year or $53.00/month in electricity <br />costs for a LED sign; and <br />WHEREAS, 3 vendors were solicited to submit quotes to retrofit the existing <br />electronic message board to an LED system; and <br />WHEREAS, 1 quote was received by AIM Electronics; and <br />WHEREAS, it is recommended that the City contract with AIM Electronics in the <br />amount of $34,980.57; and <br />WHEREAS, the funds for this purchase would be derived from the City Hall <br />Rehabilitation fund of 280-4180-7050-100; and <br />WHEREAS, Xcel Energy, Business Solutions, sponsors a rebate program as an <br />incentive for businesses to reduce their electricity usage by upgrading their equipment. <br />Because the City's electronic message board operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week <br />and is being considered for an LED lighting system, the City qualifies for a rebate in the <br />amount of $1,133.00 <br />NOW, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Mounds View City Council <br />does hereby approve a contract award with AIM Electronics in the amount of $34,980.57 <br />for the retrofit of the existing electronic message board with an LED lighting system and <br />that the purchase will be derived from the City Hall Rehabilitation fund of 280-4180- <br />7050-100. <br />Adopted this 14th day of November 2005. <br />~~ ~~ <br />Rob arty, Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />r <br />K rt Ulrich, City Administrator <br />(seal) <br />
