Mounds View City Council November 23, 2015 <br />Regular Meeting Page 9 <br /> <br />consistent with previous quarters. He reported Officer Kirk Leitch had been assigned as the <br />Department’s School Resource Officer. <br /> <br />Police Chief Kinney discussed the K-9 unit’s activity in the third quarter. He reported a local <br />Girl Scout troop was so impressed by Officer Nick Erickson and Niko that they raised enough <br />funds to purchase a vest for a Blaine K-9. <br /> <br />Police Chief Kinney thanked the residents of Mounds View for participating in National Night <br />Out. He also appreciated the public’s involvement in the school supply drive. He then provided <br />further comment on the Punt, Pass and Kick event that was sponsored by the Mounds View <br />Police Department at the Edgewood Middle School. <br /> <br />Police Chief Kinney thanked Sergeant Wolf for putting on a gun safety training course again this <br />fall. He discussed a missing person’s case in the community and thanked his officers for their <br />efforts on this case. He appreciated the connection he has made with the Liberian community <br />through this case. <br /> <br />Council Member Mueller asked how residents could make a donation to the K-9 unit. Police <br />Chief Kinney suggested all donations be sent to City Hall with a notation on the check stating the <br />donation was for the Police Department’s K-9 unit. <br /> <br />Council Member Mueller questioned what the minimum age was for individuals to participate in <br />the gun safety course. Police Chief Kinney reported individuals had to be 11 years of age. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty thanked Police Chief Kinney for his report and for making an effort to <br />continually engage with the community. <br /> <br />Finance Director Beer reminded the Council that the Truth and Taxation Meeting would be held <br />on December 7, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. <br /> <br />City Administrator Ericson reported the City of Mounds View was nominated and received an <br />award from the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce recognizing the City for its efforts in economic <br />development, specifically the City’s business expansion and retention efforts. He thanked <br />Business Development Coordinator Beeman for his efforts on behalf of the City. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty reminded the public that City Hall would be closed on Thursday, November 26th <br />and Friday, November 27th for the Thanksgiving holiday. He wished everyone a Happy <br />Thanksgiving. <br /> <br />C. Reports of City Attorney. <br /> <br />City Attorney Riggs discussed the Silver View Trail easement situation and noted he was <br />halfway to achieving the City’s goal. <br /> <br />12. Truth in Taxation Meeting: Monday, December 7, 2015, at 6:00 p.m.
