<br />The Mounds View Public Works Department is responsible for the reliable and long-term operation, maintenance,
<br />repair, improvement,_ construction, and management of all municipal infrastructure involving drinking water supply
<br />anclvwastewater collection systems; streets, trails, and right-of-way; stormwater conveyance, ponds, and treatment
<br />systems; parks and athletic facilities; buildings and grounds; vehicles and equipment; and urban forestry.
<br />Public Works staff provides residents and businesses with clean drinking water, safe collection of wastewater,
<br />clear passageway of streets, reliable flood protection, beautiful parks, groomed athletic fields and recreational
<br />facilities, comfortable building spaces, and cost-effective, sustainable solutions for the long-term performance
<br />and delivery of these services.

<br />Public Works is divided in two divisions:
<br />Operation & Maintenance (O&M) and
<br />Administration/Engineering (A/E). O&M is
<br />responsible for the daily operation and
<br />maintenance of the infrastructure, while A/E is
<br />responsible for the planning, design, and
<br />construction of the infrastructure, asset and
<br />records management, and overall department
<br />administration activities. Both divisions work
<br />closely together to ensure the infrastructure is
<br />reliable, efficient, and provides the lowest life
<br />cycle cost.
<br />A/E staff operates out of the City Hall facilities
<br />and O&M staff operates out of the Public Works
<br />Facility located at 2466 Bronson Drive.
<br />Quick Facts About Mounds View's Infrastructure
<br />The value of Mounds View's current infrastructure is estimated to be in excess of $100 million. This value
<br />represents the cost to replace the entire infrastructure that currently exists. A vast majority of this infrastructure
<br />was originally built in the 1960's and 1970's. Therefore, it is imperative that periodic inspections, proper treatment,
<br />and performance monitoring is conducted to extend its useful life as long as practical.
<br />Below is a general synopsis of the existing infrastructure managed by the Mounds View Public Works Department:
<br />• 47 miles of water main, 460 hydrants, 1000 water main valves, 4100 water meters
<br />• 6 wells and 3 water treatment plants (500 million gallons raw water pumped/treated each year)
<br />• 43 miles of roadway, 15 miles of trails/sidewalks, 1250 traffic signs, 300 street lights
<br />• 45 miles of sanitary trunk main, 900 manholes, 2 lift stations (400 million gallons sewage collected each year)
<br />• 30 miles of storm trunk main, 1500 storm drains/manholes, 300 infiltration swales,10 regional ponds
<br />• 11 parks (150 acres), 35 acres irrigation, 10 baseball and 4 soccer fields, 10 playgrounds (3,500 acres mowed
<br />each year)
<br />• 16 buildings totaling 150,000 sq. ft., 6 parking lots, 5 acres of grounds
<br />• 50+ vehicles and heavy/highway equipment
<br />• 10,000lap nted trees in boulevards, parks, and grounds (tens of thousands more in natural areas)
