Item No: 08A <br />MOUNDS I'� rfE Meeting Date: March 25, sent <br />�/ Type of Business: Consent <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />ENNEr- <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: James Ericson, City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8079 Accepting a Donation from Bethlehem <br />Baptist Church in the Amount of $17,926 and Authorizing <br />Distribution of Funds <br />Introduction: <br />Bethlehem Baptist Church purchased the building located at 5151 Program Avenue in <br />2004 and received City zoning approval to renovate the former office / warehouse space <br />for church usage. At the same time, the Church expressed its desire to sponsor and <br />support worthy community endeavors and created the "Mounds View Service Project Fund" <br />pledging annual donations totaling $25,000. They envisioned the fund to be used to help <br />meet certain community needsjointly identified by the city and the Church thatwould be "in <br />harmony" with their mission and values. <br />Discussion: <br />Representatives from the City, the Community Center and the Park & Rec Commission <br />have discussed potential funding opportunities for the first half 2013 service project fund <br />donation which totaled $17,926. A number of programs and improvements which had <br />been reviewed by the representative were highlighted for Bethlehem's consideration. The <br />Church's Pastor for Outreach, Vince Johnson, responded with a letter dated March 14, <br />2013, recommending the following disbursement schedule: <br />• Safe Afterschool Programs for Youth $6,000 <br />• Music in the Park $1,000 <br />• Y -Partners $1,000 <br />• MVCC Program and Building Supplies $3,500 <br />• Field and Security Lighting Upgrades in Parks $2,126 <br />• Two Mobile Dental Clinic $1,300 <br />• Economic Development & Marketing $3,000 <br />Recommendation: <br />Attached for your consideration is Resolution 8079, a resolution which accepts the <br />donation from Bethlehem Baptist Church in the amount of $17,926 and authorizes the <br />distribution of the donations according to the Church's recommendations. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />J 6,+r u <br />James Ericson <br />City Administrator <br />
