Item No: 7K <br />_ Meeting Date: July 22, 2013 <br />MOUNDS Z %SAT Type of Business: Council Business <br />J �/ Lir Administrator Review: iCC <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Public Works Supervisor <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8126 Approving the Purchase of a New Service Truck for <br />the Street Department <br />Background/Discuss ion: <br />As part of the Public Works Department's maintenance program, service trucks are purchased for <br />the departments to perform the needed maintenance and inspections required throughout the City. <br />Currently the Street Department has in use a 1999 Ford 550 truck with a dump box. This truck is <br />used for hauling debris and materials associated with water main breaks, storm damage, and other <br />various tasks. This unit is also used as the sign replacement or repair truck as has an air <br />compressor on the vehicle used for air tools and the pneumatic post pounder. <br />Discussion: <br />Staff has received a quote off the State of Minnesota Cooperative Purchasing Venture for a new <br />2014 F550 4x4 cab and chassis for a cost of $43,362.16 from Midway Ford of Roseville, Minnesota. <br />In addition to the cab and chassis, Staff has received a quote from the State Of Minnesota <br />Cooperative Purchasing Venture from Crysteel Truck and Equipment of Fridley, Minnesota, for a <br />new dump box and V -Mac Compressor: <br />1) Box with options $12,922.77 <br />2) V -Mac VR70 $ 9,514.00 <br />Total cost of unit including the options is $65,798.93, not including any sales tax or license fees. This <br />cost is $25,798.93 over the 2013 budget. Staff has meet with the Finance Director and proposed <br />holding off on the purchase of the AEBI tractor in 2013 and then re -budgeting for this unit in 2014. <br />The re -purposing of these funds will offset the purchase of the new truck. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council consider approving the purchase of a 2014 F550 regular cab <br />and chassis off of the State Of Minnesota Cooperative Purchasing Venture from Midway Ford for a <br />cost of $43,362.16 not including the sales tax or licensing fees. <br />Staff also recommends approving the purchase of a dump box with options along with a VMac under <br />the hood air compressor from Cysteel Equipment at the cost of $22,436.77 not including any sales <br />tax. <br />Staff is also recommending a 5% contingency in the amount of $3,289.95. For a total of $68,088.88 <br />not including sales tax or license fees, funds to be taken from account 460-4470-7030 and re- <br />purposing additional funds from 460-4360-7030 to help offset the costs. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Don Peterson <br />Public Works Supervisor <br />
