PERIPHERAL DUTIES <br />Performs research and prepares written and oral reports, and other <br />assignments, as directed. <br />• Establishes and maintains working files. <br />• Informs the Community Development Director of any inspection related <br />activities that require immediate attention or action. <br />• Consults with the City Attorney, as necessary, to review and evaluate <br />appropriate legal remedies to gain compliance with codes and ordinances. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />• Knowledge of practices, principles, and techniques of effective code <br />enforcement/fire prevention principles. <br />• Knowledge of the practices and principles of fire suppression and medical <br />emergency rescue. <br />• Knowledge of the geography of the City and location of hydrants, building <br />and special areas requiring special pre -fire control planning, inspection <br />and special fire fighting techniques. <br />• Knowledge of the state fire code, state laws and local authorities as they <br />apply to the position. <br />• Skill in public presentations and negotiation skills. <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br />Education and Experience <br />® Two 2 ears of ost-seconds education with course work in fire <br />science and /or two (2) years experience in the fire prevention field. <br />® Certification e uivalent to Minnesota State Fire Service Certification of <br />Fire Inspector II <br />® Certification as a Firefighter I First Responder and member of the Spring <br />Lake Park Blaine Mounds view Fire Department. <br />1 year of Housing Inspections and/or experience. <br />DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS <br />• Knowledge of housing inspection programs and practices. <br />• General knowledge of housing codes. <br />• Ability to communicate clearly and effective• ly, both orally and in writing. <br />Ability to work well with the public and with local contractors <br />• Ability to read and understand complicated plans and blueprints. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />A state driver's license or ability to obtain one by start of employment. <br />
