RESOLUTION 8189 CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW COUNTY OF RAMSEY STATE OF MINNESOTA APPROVING A POSITION DESCRIPTION AND AUTHORIZING ADVERTISEMENT FOR HIRING A MAINTENANCE WORKER IN THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT WHEREAS, the recent retirement of the Parks Supervisor has provided an opportunity to restructure staffing for the Public Works Department to better address deficiencies in personnel and to increase the effectiveness in providing the many essential services devolved upon the Department; and WHEREAS, staff recommends the addition of a Maintenance Worker to perform parks maintenance duties which were previously supplemented by the eliminated Parks Supervisor position and a previously eliminated full-time seasonal maintenance worker; and WHEREAS, five separate position descriptions and titles currently exist for maintenance workers that are inconsistent and do not accurately depict shared duties required for the maintenance workers; and WHEREAS, a single "Maintenance Worker" position description that incorporates the shared responsibilities and requirements of the other five position descriptions and details the core duties for the specific maintenance area (subdivision) that maintenance workers are appointed is proposed to replace the five maintenance worker position descriptions. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Mounds View, Ramsey County, Minnesota as follows: 1. The addition of a "Maintenance Worker" position to perform park maintenance duties in the Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department is hereby approved. This position will be a full-time, non-exempt FSLA position and a member of the Public Works Collective Bargaining Unit. The attached "Maintenance Worker" position description is hereby approved and replaces the "Maintenance Worker (Drinking Water)", "Public Works Maintenance Worker (Sanitary Sewer)", "Maintenance Worker (Stormwater)", "Public Works Maintenance -Streets', and "Parks Maintenance Worker" position descriptions and titles. 3. The Director of Public Works is authorized to appoint "Maintenance Worker' positions to a subdivision of the Public Works Maintenance Division. 4. Staff is authorized to post internally within Public Works Maintenance Division the added Maintenance Worker position in accordance with the current Public Works Collective Bargaining Unit agreement. 5. Staff is directed to evaluate applicants and recommend a finalist for the added Maintenance Worker position to be considered by the City Council. Adopted this 9th day of December, 2013.
