• Perform manual labor including, but not limited to: lifting; painting; tree trimming, planting, and removal; and compacting materials by using hand tools or mechanical equipment. • Keep accurate records of time sheets, job activity sheets, televising records, fuel log sheets, vehicle and equipment maintenance reports, water test, as-builts, and other related or required data. • Respond to citizen's requests and complaints in a manner consistent with the City policies and regulations, promoting and maintaining a favorable image of the City through positive community relations. • Follow departmental safety regulations and operating procedures that comply with applicable Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Laws and regulations. • Participate in the Public Works "Standby Duty" and "Call Back" programs for after-hours and weekend maintenance, repairs, and emergencies. • Performs other duties and responsibilities as apparent or assigned by the Public Works Supervisor. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in maintenance and minor repairs. • Ability to perform routine repair and maintenance tasks for various O&M divisions. • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment used. • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule. • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, and stand for long periods, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse conditions. • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public. • Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS • Possess a valid Minnesota Class D driver's license and CDL Class B license with air brake and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. • Possess a Water Supply System Operator Class D certificate. • Possess a Wastewater Operator Class S -D certificate. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED • Common industry motorized vehicles and equipment, including dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, skid steer, tamper, plate compactor, saws, pumps, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone, ditch witch, and computer. • Specialized equipment including jetting/vactor truck and underground utility televising equipment and accessories.
