Item No: 9E MOUNDS VEW �Meeting Date: Dec 11, 2017 Type of Business: Council Business Administrator Review; City of Mounds View Staff Report 6 To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Jon Sevald, City Planner/Supervisor Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8877, Appointment of Comprehensive Plan Taskforce Introduction: The Comprehensive Plan is a 20 -year guide for land use and development. Mounds View is required to submit a Plan update to the Metropolitan Council by December 31, 2018, following certain criteria. During the June 6, 2016 Council Work Session, the Council consented to the creation of a nine -member taskforce, representing the City Council (1) , Economic Development Commission (2), Planning Commission (2), Parks Commission (2), and at -large residents (2). Discussion: During the Council's December 4, 2017 Work Session, multiple Councilmembers expressed an interest in serving on the Taskforce. The Council consented to a name being drawn out of a hat. This Councilmember will serve as Chair of the Taskforce. The applicable commissions recommended the following members be appointed to the Taskforce: Economic Development Commission: Teresa Muckala Dennis Farmer Parks, Recreation and Forestry Commission: John Kroeger Gary Rundle Planning Commission: Justin Klander Angelica Klebsch Staff has collected suggested names for the At -Large representatives from Council and Commission members, and from Staff, in addition to advertising in the spring 2017 Mounds View Matters. Those residents were asked to complete and submit an application form by December 4, 2017. The Council is requested to choose two representatives from the following: Daniel Larson Branton Smith William Urbanski M. Joan (Josey) Warren Marcie Weinandt Finally, the Taskforce is intended to meet twice per month, January thru May/June, 2018, on an as needed basis. During the City Council's December 4, 2017 Work Session, the Council was asked if these meetings should be televised. If yes, there are restrictions as to the evenings available (1St 2nd & 41h Tuesdays, and V Thursdays). If no, the Taskforce will set their own meeting dates based on availability. The Council asked Staff to consider if there is time capacity (Staff time) to televise these meetings, which there is. Staff is recommending these meetings be televised, and conducted on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month (as needed).
