Resolution 8905 Nominating Joe Flaherty as SBM Fire Board <br />Representative. <br />C. Set a Public Hearing for Monday, February 26, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. to <br />Consider amending Municipal Code, Section 702.01, Subd 13(b), regarding <br />Possession, Aiming or Discharging of Weapons. <br />D. Resolution 8908 Approving the 2018 Public Works Parks Seasonal Positions. <br /> <br />MOTION/SECOND: Gunn/Meehlhause. To Approve the Consent Agenda as amended <br />removing Item 6B. <br /> <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. <br /> <br />B. Resolution 8905 Nominating Joe Flaherty as SBM Fire Board <br />Representative. <br /> <br />Council Member Meehlhause thanked former Mayor Joe Flaherty for being willing to serve as <br />the City’s representatives on the SBM Fire Board. <br /> <br />MOTION/SECOND: Meehlhause/Mueller. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 8905 <br />Nominating Joe Flaherty as SBM Fire Board Representative. <br /> <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. <br /> <br />7. PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> <br />Bill Urbanski, 2367 Sherwood Road, spoke to the Council regarding a proposed private gun club <br />being located in Mounds View at the Crossroad Pointe development site on Mounds View <br />Boulevard. He explained he taught high school in White Bear Lake for 35 years and was a <br />member of the White Bear Lake Chamber of Commerce. He commented on how the Thursday <br />evening Market Fest initiative has positively impacted local businesses in White Bear Lake. He <br />proposed the City build market rate apartments with first floor retail on the Crossroad Pointe site <br />and not a gun club. He suggested the retail include a bakery, coffee shop and have outdoor <br />seating. He recommended the apartment building be built in a horseshoe shape to allow for a <br />plaza area in the middle which could be used for weekly farmer’s market or art show events. <br /> <br />Jerry Shores, 5079 Eastwood Road, addressed the idea of lead leeching. He anticipated there was <br />more of a lead paint issue in the City in its older housing stock than would be created by the <br />proposed gun club. He believed guns should only be discharged for two reasons in the City of <br />Mounds View, one by Police Officers while carrying out their duty and second in the protection <br />of a person in their home. <br /> <br />Steve Chambers, 2957 Sherwood Place, stated he was shocked the City was considering a gun <br />range on the Crossroads Pointe property.
