M6"s VIEW <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />Item No: W, -C' <br />Meeting Date: March 12, 2018 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator Review: <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Rayla Sue Ewald, Human Resources Coordinator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8920, Approving the Hire of Melissa Miller to the <br />Position of Mounds View Police Officer <br />Background: <br />The Police Department has an immediate need to fill one Police Officer position due to <br />the vacancy which occurred on February 28, 2018. A conditional offer was made to a <br />candidate who failed the hiring assessment. <br />Discussion: <br />On February 26, 2018 Council approved Resolution 8915 granting approval to appoint a <br />candidate to the position of Police Officer. An offer was made to the candidate however <br />the candidate failed the psychological evaluation portion of the background. <br />At this time, staff would like to offer the vacant position to Melissa Miller. Ms. Miller was <br />the second person listed on the Police Civil Service Commission list created February <br />21, 2018. <br />Ms. Miller successfully passed the required testing procedures, which included an oral <br />board examination and physical agility testing. Ms. Miller has submitted the background <br />investigation materials, and is in the process of completing a physical and psychological <br />examination. Ms. Miller is currently employed at the City of Morris as a Police Officer <br />and has over a year of service on the job. <br />Staff is requesting to begin employment of Ms. Miller as a Police Officer on or about <br />April 9, 2018. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends City Council approval of Resolution 8920, a resolution authorizing <br />the hiring of Melissa Miller to the position of Police Officer at Step 1 ($25.66/hour) of the <br />compensation schedule in accordance with the Law Enforcement Labor Services <br />Contract. <br />Respectfully Submitted, <br />-2� L4,� <br />Ray Sue Ewald <br />Hu an Resources Coordinator <br />
