Mounds View City Council February 22, 2016 <br />Regular Meeting Page 8 <br /> <br /> 1 <br />Mayor Flaherty explained he attended a North Metro Mayors Association meeting last Thursday. 2 <br />The upcoming legislative session was discussed along with the proposed highway bonding bills. 3 <br /> 4 <br />Mayor Flaherty indicated the Council and staff retreat would be held on Monday, February 29th 5 <br />beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Community Center. 6 <br /> 7 <br />Council Member Gunn reported she would be attending the upcoming Communities Partners 8 <br />with Youth luncheon. 9 <br /> 10 <br /> B. Reports of Staff. 11 <br /> 12 <br />Public Works Director Erickson reported Met Council had a minor setback on the interceptor. 13 <br />He explained a small leak was found and was managed by the contractor. It was noted the 14 <br />expense for the fix would be the responsibility of the Met Council. 15 <br /> 16 <br />Public Works Director Erickson indicated the new Public Works mechanic would begin working 17 <br />with the City on Monday, March 7th. 18 <br /> 19 <br />Public Works Director Erickson stated he had a meeting with Trane representatives last Friday. 20 <br />He updated the Council regarding the solar panels on the Community Center. 21 <br /> 22 <br />Mayor Flaherty expressed frustration with the contractor at the Community Center. He believed 23 <br />that Trane needed to step up. Finance Director Beer stated that over $300,000 in payment was 24 <br />being held by the City to ensure that all work will be completed. 25 <br /> 26 <br />Public Works Director Erickson noted there was a sewage blockage due to flushable wipes. He 27 <br />wanted to caution Mounds View residents from flushing these wipes as they could cause a 28 <br />blockage in sanitary sewer lines. 29 <br /> 30 <br />Public Works Supervisor Peterson requested the Council approve the continuation of the forestry 31 <br />grant from the DNR. He indicated the grant ended in December of 2015. Staff has since 32 <br />requested an extension. He discussed the forestry items that would be covered through the DNR 33 <br />grant. 34 <br /> 35 <br />Public Works Supervisor Peterson commented the 2016 budget has $40,000 set aside for new 36 <br />exercise equipment to assist with remodeling the exercise area. Nate Danielson proposed the 37 <br />City purchase additional equipment jointly with the YMCA in 2015. Nate Danielson has since 38 <br />explained to City staff that this purchase may not occur in 2016, but rather 2017 to allow him 39 <br />adequate time to research the exercise equipment prior to making a recommendation on the 40 <br />purchase. He requested that the funding be used to replace broken or cracked floor and ceiling 41 <br />tiles at the Community Center. 42 <br /> 43 <br />The Council fully supported the forestry grant and the $40,000 being used for maintenance at the 44 <br />YMCA. 45
