<br /> <br />Resolution 8576 Approving the Hire of Brian Dickenson as Engineering/GIS Intern <br />May 9, 2016 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br />Mr., Dickenson will be graduating this year in the Fall of 2016 at the University of Minnesota <br />Mankato with a degree in GIS. Mr. Dickenson will be instrumental in assisting the <br />engineering staff in Public Works to build the City’s GIS base maps and drafting of in-house <br />engineering drawings and exhibits. Staff believes that a qualified intern will easily offset <br />consultant costs associated with the GIS data/mapping and engineering drafting services. <br />Mr. Dickenson will also perform other common daily tasks involving file archiving, field <br />surveys/investigations, construction inspection, assisting citizens with questions, and other <br />various and miscellaneous duties of the department. <br /> <br />Work hours for Mr. Dickenson would be a part time (under 30 hours a week not to exceed <br />the budgeted 680 hours), and will not exceed 119 days. No benefits and no employment <br />agreement are associated with this position, so if the Council does not approve future <br />budget monies for the position, the intern position will be terminated. Mr. Dickenson will <br />start the internship on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, and the internship will end on or about <br />August 12, 2016. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the City Council consider adopting Resolution 8576 that will approve <br />the hire of Brian Dickenson as Engineering/GIS Intern in the Public Works Department. <br />Staff received a satisfactory criminal background check on Mr. Dickenson.
