City of Mounds View ‘ztoik <br /> Police Chief <br /> Position Profile <br /> THE COMMUNITY <br /> The City of Mounds View offers a quiet hometown atmosphere within a short distance of <br /> the hustle and bustle of the Twin Cities. Awarded the distinction of "Tree City U.S.A." <br /> for the past 15 years, the community is enhanced by a profusion of oak trees and other <br /> varieties, creating a mixed green canopy throughout the City. <br /> Mounds View is located in northern Ramsey County approximately eight miles north of <br /> St. Paul and encompasses an area of approximately 4.25 square miles. Over the past 25 <br /> years the City has experienced moderate growth and has a current population of <br /> approximately 13,000. Mounds View is nearly fully developed with the majority of land <br /> used for single family housing. <br /> There are over 150 businesses located in Mounds View, housed mainly in four <br /> commercial and industrial park locations. The City's major employers include Sysco, a <br /> food products manufacturer with 526 employees; CTC Distribution, a transportation <br /> company with 427 employees; Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a computer electronics firm <br /> with 370 employees; and Hyman Freightways, a transportation company with 310 <br /> employees. Other prominent businesses include the Mermaid Supper Club, Dell Comm, <br /> Inc., Liberty Check Printers, and Bauer Welding and Metal Fabrication. <br /> RECREATION <br /> Mounds View has seven active neighborhood parks and three larger community parks <br /> offering tennis courts, playfields, park buildings, picnic areas, ball fields, skating and <br /> hockey rinks, a swimming beach, sliding hills, and nature trails. Park and Recreation <br /> programs are provided by the YMCA through a contractual arrangement with the City. <br /> Activities and programs include youth and adult athletics, swimming and gymnastic <br /> instruction, senior adult activities, after school programming, pre-school activities, and <br /> special interest classes. Each year the Festival in the Park celebration is held at City <br /> Hall Park. The Mounds View Community Theater puts on an annual summer musical. <br /> In January 1999, residents celebrated the grand opening of the 44,000 square foot new <br /> Community Center. The Center features a child care center, classrooms, banquet rooms, <br /> senior facilities, a gymnasium and a teen center. <br /> The Bridges Golf Course and Practice Facility is owned and operated by the City. The <br /> executive golf course features seven footbridges in a natural park setting as well as <br /> perennial gardens and picnic facilities. <br />
