Item No. 46
Staff Report No.
Meeting Date: 2/2/98
Type of Business: WK
WK: Work Session;PH:Public Hearing;
CA: Consent Agenda; CB:Council Business
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Mayor and City Council Members
From: Rick Jopke, Community Development Director
Item Title/Subject: Comprehensive Plan Update Community Forums
Date of Report: January 27, 1998
Background:
As you are all aware, the City of Mounds View, along with other communities in the metro area,
will be updating its comprehensive plan in 1998.To assist in this effort and to gain valuable
citizen input up front, the Planning Commission will be conducting three community forums.
The Planning Commission hopes these forums will help Mounds View citizens understand what
the comprehensive plan is and most importantly to give citizens a chance to talk about what
Mounds View should be like in the future. The first forum will be held at 7 PM on Wed.
February 11, 1998 in the cafeteria at Pinewood Elementary School for people who live north of
the Highway 10 corridor. The second forum will be for the Highway 10 corridor and will be held
at 7 PM on Wed. March 11, 1998 in the Edgewood Jr. High School cafeteria. The third forum
will for those people living south of the Highway 10 corridor and will be held in the cafeteria of
Edgewood Jr. High School at 7 PM. A notice of these meetings will be mailed to each resident
and business in the community.
At these forums staff will give background information about the community, explain what the
comprehensive plan is and explain the process which is being used to update it. The rest of the
meeting will be spent in small groups identifying and talking about both the positive and
negative issues in the community. A planning commission member will be assigned to each
group to facilitate the discussion and write down what they hear. At the end of the meeting each
commissioner will summarize the discussion that occurred in their group. The input received will
be compiled into a summary document and each participant will receive a copy.
City Council members are welcome to attend and participate in these forums. If more than 2
council members plan to attend any given forum, the open meeting law requirements would
pertain. Copies of the summary document will be provided to council members.
Rick Jopke,Co unity Development Director
N:\DATA\USERS\RICKJO\SI-TARE\020298.RPT
