City of Mounds View City Council and Staff Retreat <br /> May 18, 1998 <br /> L INTRODUCTION <br /> The Mayor, City Council, City Administrator, and Department Heads held a Council/Staff <br /> retreat on May 18, 1998. The retreat, held at the Harriet Alexander Interpretive Nature Center, <br /> was held as a workshop to address some current issues/problems being faced by the participants. <br /> Participants at the retreat were: <br /> Duane McCarty Mayor <br /> Gary Quick Council Member <br /> Roger Stigney Council Member <br /> Roger Koopmeiners Council Member <br /> Sherry Gunn Council Member <br /> Chuck Whiting City Administrator <br /> Tim Ramacher Chief of Police <br /> Mary Saarion Director of Parks and Recreation <br /> Mike Ulrich Director of Public Works <br /> Rick Jopke Director of Community Development <br /> Bruce Kessel Director of Finance <br /> John Hammerschmidt Golf Course Superintendent <br /> Can Schmidt Assistant to the City Administrator <br /> The primary objectives of the retreat were: <br /> 1) To determine if this organization is viewed as credible-why or why not? And if so, <br /> where are our credibility issues--to the citizenry, between Council Members, between <br /> staff and Council? <br /> 2) To determine how to keep up to speed with what the community wants for Mounds <br /> View? <br /> 3) To determine the best possible methods for the dissemination of information to the <br /> citizens and to Council. <br /> 4) To create understanding from which appropriate action will follow. <br /> IL INTRODUCTORY REMARKS <br /> City Administrator Chuck Whiting welcomed participants to the retreat pointing out the <br /> importance of good communication and teamwork between elected officials and city staff He <br /> expressed some concern about comments that were made after the last retreat about how"we did <br /> a lot of talking--but not a lot changed." He expressed his hopes that we could get a lot <br />
