The proposal is modeled after a planbook created for the Longfellow Neighborhood
in the City of Minneapolis.
REMODELING PLANBOOK FUNCTION
Much of the housing within the inner ring suburbs were built post World War II era. Most of these
4110 homes do not currently meet the current lifestyles and demographics of today's homeowners. They
are typically marketed to first time home buyers and used as transitional or transient housing. In
addition, the home owners stay is usually shortened due to the lack of space and amenities provided
in the housing located at the growing edges of the region.
The Remodeling Planbook is designed to provide an incentive to homeowners to move into or to
remain in the inner-ring cities versus moving out to developing suburbs. The incentives will be
provided to homeowners by identifying technical, educational, and financial services to tap into.
The Remodeling Planbook will also provide ideas, inspiration, tools, encouragement, and support to
homeowners. The Planbook would also be intended to serve as a marketing tool to promote the
advantages of living within inner-ring cities and to inspire homeowners to remodel their home and
stay.
ANTICIPATED SERVICES
Possible Planbook Features
► Identify and explain the structure and architectural features of the chosen housing
styles including floor layouts and functional considerations.
► Identify and explain the changing housing trends.
► Develop a variety of design alternatives for each housing type.
• Include graphic images, photographs, and plans to make the Planbook
understandable to homeowners.
► The Planbook will be made adaptable to other media forms such as the Internet and
• cable TV.
► Written guidelines to enhance the appearance of housing including landscaping,
fencing, and accessory buildings.
► Identification of advantages for living within participating inner-ring cities.
