Item No. 6D
Staff Report No.
Meeting Date: March 23, 1998
Type of Business: CA
WK:Work Session;PH:Public Hearing;
CA:Consent Agenda;CB:Council Business
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Mayor and Council Members
From: Mary Saarion, Director of Parks, Recreation SL Forestry
Item Title/Subject: Request Council authorization to replace the Cable TV Tape
Recorder Play/Record to be funded with Cable TV Franchise fee funds.
Date of Report: March 17, 1998
•
The video tape recorder play/record editing deck is a very important piece of machinery in the Cable
TV system. It is the machine that allows editing and replay functions. The present video tape
recorder editing deck is 9 years old and is not functioning properly. It has been brought in for repair
but repairs have been unsuccessful. The editing deck needs to be replaced as soon as possible.
Patrick Toth has received three verbal quotes for new Panasonic AG DS555 which is a play/record,
industrial video tape recorder used for editing programs. Listed below are four quotes for this
industrial production type machine (which is much different than a home video tape recorder and is
likewise much more expensive). The Cable TV interface is a necessary component of this
equipment:
ID
Audio Visual, Inc. - quoted the Video Tape Recorder at $3,600 with $650 for the cable interface
and tax of$276.25 for a total cost of$4,526.25.
•AudioVisual Wholesalers - quoted the Video Tape Recorder at $3,700 with $600 for cable interface
and tax of$279.50 for a total cost of$4,579.50.
Blumberg A/V- quoted the Video Tape Recorder at $4,000 with $625 for cable interface and tax of
$300.63 for a total cost of$4,925.63.
Stage One Supply- quoted the Video Tape Recorder at $3,800 with cable interface at $625 and tax
of$287.63 for a total of$4,712.63.
The company with the lowest cost is AVI at$4,526.25.
There are sufficient funds in the Cable TV Franchise Fee fund available for replacement of Cable TV
equipment. The video tape recorder editing deck was not intended for replacement this year and
thus is not in the 1998 capital needs budget. However, circumstances are such that the video tape
recorder editing deck is not functioning and cannot be repaired and needs immediate replacement for
continued cable tv programming.
Recommendation: Authorize staff to purchase a new industrial record/play video tape recorder at the
cost of$ 4,526.25 plus shipping charges from AVI to be funded with Cable Franchise Fee Funds.
