WY OF REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section 2
STAFF REPORT Report Number: 'U -iq f 2 WS
I
1 0 UN(,Jp S Report Date: 11/26/96
WORKSESSION MEETING DATE -
".A DOW December 2, 1996
PartneSs
Item Description: Consider an increase in water rates effective for the January 1997 billing.
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
-No Comments to supplement this report
-Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary(attach supplement sheets as necessary)
Summary:
In February, 1996, the City Council received a utility rate analysis report from our auditors. The report
projected future operating results and recommended a rate increase in 1997 (copy of report attached).
Based upon a review of 1996 operating results and the preliminary 1997 budget, it appears that the rate
increase recommended in the report be enacted, and as such, staff is recommending an increase in the water
rates from$1.30 to $1.35 per 1,000 gallons.
e have not received final confirmation from the Metropolitan Council Wastewater Commission relating to
rates they will be charging for treating wastewater for 1997 and as such, staff recommends deferring action on
any wastewater rate adjustment until we receive actual 1997 wastewater charges from the MCWC.
Bruce A. Kessel
Finance Director
