THIS IS
IT . . . .
FOR THE WEEK OF JUNE 17 - JUNE 21 , 1996
ADMINISTRATION
• It sure is quiet around here with Michele and Audrey now gone, but that may change with
some new people coming on board. Pam Sheldon of Greenwood, Colorado has accepted
the Community Development Director position and should start in July. I will also be
recommending the Council approve the hiring of Bruce Kessel of New Ulm for the
Finance Director position on Monday. I think both will be positive additions to the work
staff. Dawn and Lynette are proceeding with splitting Michele's duties for the time
being. I will see how this goes. I realize that it is more work for both of them, but the
interest and effort to give it a go is there. Thanks to both of you for taking on the added
responsibilities. Lynette has received applications for Audrey's old position and
interviews and a selection should be coming in the next couple of weeks.
• Julie Trude, Lynette and myself attended the annual League conference in Rochester last
week. The highlight was the opening ceremony where the president of the League jogged
into the auditorium with a torch ala the Olympics. It seemed kind of corny until she lit a
fuse that set off fireworks and streamers throughout the auditorium. I certainly got
everyone's attention.
• Julie, the Mayor and I also attended a meeting on the quad rink project proposed at the
National Sports Center. The four rink facility is to house ice skating needs for many of
the northern suburbs. The concerns have been on how to finance and operate it equitably.
Everyone will likely hear more on this in July and August as the issue gets promoted and
cities are asked to commit.
