OF REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section 11L <br /> I STAFF REPORT Report Number:96-1719C <br /> 01 �U DS Report Date: 5/9/96 <br /> COUNCIL MEETING DATE _ <br /> Special Order of Bus. <br /> (�� '� May 13. 1996 '— Consent Agenda <br /> -Ar <br /> "es, <br /> -Partnets�`es g <br /> Public Hearings <br /> • X Council Business <br /> Item Description: Consideration of Mounds View's Participation in the North Metro 35W Corridor <br /> Coalition <br /> Administrator's Review/Recommendation: <br /> -No Comments to supplement this report <br /> -Comments attached. <br /> Explanation/Summary(attach supplement sheets as necessary) <br /> Summary: <br /> Over the past six months representatives from the Cities of Arden Hills,New Brighton, Roseville and <br /> Shoreview have been meeting to discuss the possiblity.of developing a more cooperative planning and <br /> economic development partnership for the I-35W Corridor in the North Metro. <br /> So far the group has identified a number of common issues and goals including the following: <br /> ♦ Transportation -there is a need to work cooperatively with MnDot and the Met Council in <br /> planning for transportation improvements and mass transit needs along 35W. <br /> • Community Development Block Grants -work together to ensure that Ramsey County <br /> Policies for distribution of CDBG and Home funds are equitable. <br /> ♦ Marketing- look at developing a joint marketing program among the Cities to attract and <br /> retain industrial and commercial tax base and employment. <br /> ♦ Housing-provide affordable and life-cycle housing opportunities in the Corridor to jointly <br /> respond to the Metropolitan Livable Communities Act goals and objectives and jointly apply <br /> for funds for projects that benefit the entire corridor region. <br /> • Information Sharing-using GIS and the Internet technology to share information and <br /> formulate consistent and cooperative policies. <br /> An important element to the success of the group is to gain the support of each Council. Therefore, a <br /> resolution has been prepared for Council's consideration.
