<br />Item No: 7C <br />Meeting Date: July 11, 2016 <br />Type of Business: CB <br />Administrator Review : ____ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Desaree Crane, Assistant City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8604 Approving a Revised Job Description and <br />Authorization to Advertise for the Police Records/Evidence <br />Technician <br /> <br />Introduction: <br /> <br />The Records Evidence Technician position will become vacant due to the retirement of <br />Kathy Bednar on September 30, 2016. The position has been a full time position. The <br />duties, tasks and responsibilities are outlined in the attached job description, which <br />includes minor proposed revisions. <br /> <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />On May 31, 2016, the Police Civil Service Commission met to discuss and review the <br />position, and hiring process necessary to fill the upcoming vacancy. The Commission <br />approved the hiring process to replace the position. Due to the technical nature of the <br />position and valuable knowledge held by Kathy Bednar after her many years of <br />employment, it is strongly recommended that the replacement candidate have the <br />opportunity to spend training time alongside Ms. Bednar before her retirement. It is being <br />recommended that a period of at least one to two weeks be available for training with Kathy <br />so the new staff member can receive this critical transfer of knowledge. <br /> <br />The job description for Records Evidence Technician has been reviewed with new updates <br />to the description which include the removal of outdated tasks and duties. The revised job <br />description is attached to this report with the deletions denoted by the “strikethrough” <br />feature and all new information underlined. <br /> <br />Staff requests that advertisement for this position to occur as soon as possible so enough <br />time exists to conduct the necessary steps to complete the hiring process. Below is an <br />outline of the proposed hiring process: <br /> <br />Advertisement of the position: July 12, 2016 <br />Applications deadline: July 29, 2016 <br />Review Applications: August 1 and August 2, 2016 <br />Interview Candidates: August 4 through August 9, 2016 <br />Final Candidate for Council Approval: August 22, 2016 <br />Candidate to Start: on or about mid September 2016 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
