Item No: 7E
Meeting Date: July 11, 2016
Type of Business: Council Business
Administrator Review: ____

City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Brian L. Erickson, Public Works Director/City Engineer
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8608, Approve Additional Funding for the 2016 Sanitary
Sewer Rehabilitation Project

Background:
On May 9, 2016, the City Council approved Resolution 8564, which approved a construction
contract with Lametti & Sons, Inc. (Lametti) for the 2016 Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project.
This project lines approximately 5,558 feet of sanitary sewer lines throughout Mounds View.

Discussion:
In the last year, the sanitary sewer line under Spring Lake Road between County Road J and 84th
Ave developed two significant leaks resulting in pavement damage and emergency repairs. The
most recent leak occurred in June and as a result, the southbound lane was closed for
approximately 1 week.

As a result, staff discussed the possibility of adding the lining of this section of sanitary main with
Lametti. This would reduce the potential for future emergency repairs and the corresponding
pavement damage. Since Lametti had not started their project, this additional work is something
that they were easily able to add. They also stated they would maintain their unit prices for the
additional 795 feet of 8” liner.

The awarded unit price for this work is $23.00 per linear foot of liner. This would result in an
additional $18,285. The current contract amount is $162,851.00. The 2016 Sanitary Sewer Fund
(730-4823-7050) includes $250,000 for sewer lining. The existing contingency of $12,215 would
not be increased. The table below details the changes proposed by the additional work. It can
be seen that there would still be a positive balance of $56,649 in the Sanitary Sewer Fund.

Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the Council approve the attached resolution and add this work to the
existing 2016 Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project.

Respectfully submitted,

Brian L.
