Item No: 8.A
Meeting Date: July 25, 2016
Type of Business: Council Consent
Administrator Review: _____

City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Mark Beer, Finance Director
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8612 Authorizing the Purchase of
Security Cameras for City Hall and the Community
Center

The City Council has taken steps to improve security in and around City facilities. The City
Council previously authorized the installation of network cables in the Community Center
and City Hall to facilitate the installation of security cameras at both locations. The City
budgeted $40,000 in the Special Projects fund for camera and security improvements for
City facilities. The network cable installation cost $11,819 and the cameras would cost
$29,391. The additional cost above the budget to install the cameras is $1,210. The Special
Projects fund has an additional $40,000 budgeted for Community Center improvements that
will not occur in 2016 so there is sufficient budget to complete the camera project. The City
received a grant of $2,000 from Bethlehem Baptist Church for cameras at the Community
Center.

Staff is recommending that the City Council authorize the purchase of cameras for both
facilities. The network cabling is underway and the cameras can be installed this week or
early next week. The City of Roseville IT staff obtained 2 quotes on our behalf with Paragon
Solutions Group providing the lowest quote of $29,391. CDW provided a quote of $30,876.
We have purchased equipment from both companies in the past with no issues.

Respectfully Submitted,

____________________
Mark Beer
