Item No: 7B
Meeting Date: January 12, 2015
Type of Business: Council Business
Administrator Review: _______
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Heidi Heller, Planning Associate
Item Title/Subject: Introduction and First Reading of Ordinance 887, Amending
Chapter 1116 of the Mounds View Municipal Code
Pertaining to Uses in the Industrial Zoning District

The Planning Commission discussed adding additional uses to the industrial district
zoning code to accommodate uses that are currently existing in industrial zoned
properties, such as medical supply and pharmaceutical companies. The property at 8400
Coral Sea Street is zoned industrial but the building is an “office park” type building and
as such, is not being used by industrial type businesses. There are also many conditional
uses in the industrial zoning district, and the Planning Commission agreed that some
could be changed to an allowed use.

The Commission was supportive of adding medical supply and pharmacy to the allowed
uses, particularly to accommodate businesses that currently exist in industrial zoned
properties. The Commission also felt it was appropriate to change some current
conditional uses to be allowed uses. In addition, as Staff was researching the I-1,
Industrial District, and noticed that the use “warehouses” is listed both as a permitted use
and as a conditional use. The Planning Commission agreed that it should be a permitted
use, and deleted from the conditional uses. Ordinance 895 was drafted with the
recommended changes to the Industrial Zoning Code.

Recommendation
Review Ordinance 895 with the proposed City Code amendments for changes to the I-1,
Industrial Zoning Code.

Sincerely,

Heidi Heller, Planning Associate

Attachments:
1.
