Item No: 07C Meeting Date: April 27, 2015 Type of Business: CB City Administrator Review: _____ City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Desaree Crane, Assistant City Administrator Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8403, Appointing Therese Kieffer to the Planning Commission Background: The Planning Commission is a volunteer board of Mounds View residents charged with studying and recommending to the City Council ways in which to carry out the Municipal Code and related regulations. In this capacity, the Commission has the responsibility to maintain and update the Comprehensive Plan; to act upon variance requests; to conduct public hearings and make recommendations to the City Council on zoning classifications, rezonings, plats, lot splits, planned unit development and conditional use permits. The Commission receives citizen input, solicits all available information on an issue and recommends appropriate action to the City Council for final action. The Commission consists of seven (7) members appointed by the City Council. Planning Commission meetings are held in the City Council Chambers on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, at 7:00pm. Discussion: Cindy Carvelli-Yu is resigning her seat on the Planning Commission. Staff advertised the open seat and received one (1) application from Therese (pronounced Ter-ray-se) Kieffer. Attached is her application. The Planning Commission reviewed Ms. Kieffer’s application, and they are recommending that the City Council appoint Ms. Kieffer to the term expiring on December 31, 2015. Recommendation: Staff recommends that the City Council review Therese Kieffer’s application, and appoint Ms. Kieffer to the Planning Commission. This commission seat will expire on December 31, 2015.
