Mounds View City Council April 27, 2015 <br />Regular Meeting Page 5 <br /> <br />F. Resolution 8400, Approving the Replacement of the Playground Equipment 1 <br />at Groveland Park. 2 <br /> 3 <br />Interim Public Works Director Peterson requested the Council approve the replacement of the 4 <br />playground equipment at Groveland Park. He indicated the Parks Commission has been 5 <br />reviewing this park and the National Park Institute recommends that all play structures be 6 <br />replaced every 12 to 15 years. He commented that the Groveland Park playground was 20 years 7 <br />old. He reported that Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground was approached to submit a bid on this 8 <br />project. The bid for the Groveland Park playground equipment came in at $40,500 plus 9 <br />installation and site work. The total expense for the park project would be $65,643.63. Staff 10 <br />noted that this was a budgeted item within the 2015 budget and recommended that the Council 11 <br />approve the playground equipment replacement. 12 <br /> 13 <br />Council Member Mueller asked if the picnic area would be maintained within Groveland Park. 14 <br />Interim Public Works Director Peterson explained that the picnic area would remain. 15 <br /> 16 <br />Council Member Mueller discussed how the Groveland neighborhood was transitioning to 17 <br />younger families and she believed these new residents would greatly appreciate the new park 18 <br />equipment. 19 <br /> 20 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Hull. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 8400, 21 <br />Approving the Replacement of the Playground Equipment at Groveland Park. 22 <br /> 23 <br />Council Member Meehlhause appreciated the Parks Commission and Public Works Department 24 <br />staff for their efforts on Groveland Park. 25 <br /> 26 <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 27 <br /> 28 <br />G. Resolution 8401, Awarding a Construction Contract with Pearson Bros, Inc. 29 <br />for the 2015 Seal Coat Project for Areas A, B, & C. 30 <br /> 31 <br />Interim Public Works Director Peterson requested the Council award a construction contract with 32 <br />Pearson Brothers, Inc. for the 2015 Seal Coat Project for Areas A, B and C. He stated the City 33 <br />has worked to reconstruct its 26 miles of street while also creating a maintenance program. He 34 <br />reported that in 2015 the City would need to seal coat Areas A, B and C. Bids for this project 35 <br />were requested and Pearson Brothers submitted the low bid of $198,879.75 plus a 10% 36 <br />contingency. Staff recommended the Council award the project to Pearson Brothers. 37 <br /> 38 <br />Mayor Flaherty requested further information on the seal coating process. Interim Public Works 39 <br />Director Peterson reported a thin layer of oil emulsion would be applied to the road surface and 40 <br />would be covered with crushed granite.
